Sheffield Hallam University

Sheffield Hallam has close links with the professions and industry. Our range of courses means we can help you to work effectively in professional teams. There is a focus on practical applications that reflect real-life scenarios. This ‘fitness to practice’ is recognised and applauded by employers.
We have links with many professional bodies and an established research track record, attracting over £400,000 funding each year from research councils and industry. Our £3.5 million investment means we can offer some of the best specialist computing and laboratory facilities in the UK.

We have a built environment resource centre with practice-based documents, information technology facilities and plan copiers/plotters. There are practical laboratories where you explore the properties of different materials and you also benefit from interactive computer based teaching aids developed by the course team.

We have dedicated software suites which house the latest construction-related software for teaching on our courses, fully supported by our technical computing staff.

Our facilities aid the effective teaching of our courses and create a successful environment for research activities and allow us to provide invaluable services to business.

We work closely with professional bodies and provide the necessary training for professionals to keep pace with the changing business and technical environment.

Professional development allows the business and individual to benefit from greater competence, professionalism, knowledge and application through learning. We provide opportunities for companies to invest in staff and develop their skill base.

Our RICS accredited courses fall within the subject areas of the built environment, environment or planning, housing and regeneration. Please visit our website for further information www.shu.ac.uk/faculties/ds

I particularly like the fact that coursework is based on current development in Sheffield. It's a very exciting place to be and to study the changes hands on. The rate of change in Sheffield is currently above many other cities and it’s a great place to live.’
Tim Parker, third year student.
